The Mutual

The Mutual was formed in 2009 as a tool for creative networking and to facilitate exhibition opportunities for Glasgow’s growing contingent of emerging artists. It is a company of multidisciplinary artists formed to bypass the economic restraints typically encountered by developing creative practitioners. The Mutual is co-ordinated by its three directors, Juliet Fellows-Smith, Jen White and Carrie Skinner and an annually elected operational committee of four persons. The 2010/2011 operational committee is Judith Browning, Phoebe Harrison, Michael Smith & Arron Sands.

The Mutual offers members access to its rolling exhibition programme, which consists of an annual members’ show and numerous exhibitions and multidisciplinary events throughout the city of Glasgow. Members are encouraged to submit proposals and work for the upcoming exhibition programme of thematic and open briefs set by the Mutual’s directors and operational committee. The Mutual is currently sited at the IRONBRATZ Studios and will be in residence for 12 months. This is also the site for its Miller Street office. This space is used for events and exhibitions but The Mutual also makes use of various venues, spaces, galleries and site-specific locations across Glasgow.
