Our final Spin visit of the year will be to Rhubaba Gallery & Studios. Established in 2009, Rhubaba is an artist-run organisation that provides studio space for artists, as well as running a yearly programme of exhibitions and events. This month sees the opening of their most recent show, Only nothing.
The exhibition explores many issues that the artists are tackling in their practice; these vary from political struggles, histories of artistic creation, self-expression and how ultimately these practices can be hindered by the artworld. Only nothing sets out to interrogate how artists are both constrained and contribute to issues around labour within the artworld.
Artists include Glasgow-based ceramicist Dawn Youll, video works from Johanna Billing and Natasha A. Kelly, sculpture by Jennifer Bailey, works by Tanja Ostojić, publications and a new podcast from Sophie Hope and Jenny Richards aka Manual Labours, as well as newly commissioned contributions to Rhubaba’s resource reader from writers Angela Dimitrakaki and Laura Guy.
Rhubaba is run by voluntary committee members and for this event we will be joined by two of the committee members, Laura Tully and Siobhan Scott.
