This month we will be discussing Beings, an experimental, interactive exhibition created by young people. Thirteen groups from across Scotland were shown a range of artworks from the national collection and were invited to make new art in direct response.
From phrenological heads and surrealist drawings by Salvador Dali to etchings by Giacometti and photography by Viviane Sassen, these works are shown alongside the work created by the young people. There were no set outcomes and experimentation was widely encouraged. The resulting exhibition is an emotional investigation of art in the collection through the eyes of young people today and it explores the many ways in which creativity can help us to understand and express our emotions.
We will be joined by Robin Baillie, Senior Outreach Officer at the National Galleries, who was part of the team who worked on the project.
