Spin-Off Trip to Newcastle and the North East

Spin went out on the road in November to discover and explore the art scene in Newcastle and the North East.

On Friday, we stopped off at the Hatton Gallery before visits to the following artist-led projects: Vane Gallery to see an exhibition of work by Lisa Watts and David Kefford; Locus+ gave us a fascinating insight into their varied portfolio of projects; artists Joanne Tatham and Tom O’Sullivan spoke to use about Does The It Fit at Circa Projects and then a visit to Workplace Gallery in Gateshead.

On Saturday, we got on a bus and saw The Angel of the North up-close; saw a brilliant group photography show entitled ‘you are the company…’ at the Northern Gallery of Contemporary Art in Sunderland as part of The Social; the National Glass Centre; Victor Pasmore’s Apollo Pavilion of 1969 in Peterlee and finally, the DLI Museum & Art Gallery in Durham to see work by Sarah Pickering.

The trip finished off with a visit and behind-the-scenes tour of Baltic and their exhibition by Thomas Schebitz.
