Studio Visit: Raydale Dower

Spin: Glasgow will be visiting the Trongate 103 Visiting Artist Studio to see the work of emerging artist, Raydale Dower, who will be talking about his practice.

During his residency, Raydale has been investigating new sound and sculptural composition. Interested in exploring chance and logic within electronic and concrete composition, the outcome will be located somewhere between the two art forms.

This artist residency is an opportunity for the artist to develop new work for a solo exhibition at the Changing Room, Stirling and engage in conversations within Trongate 103. A self-published musician, Raydale was a founding member of the band Uncle John & Whitelock and now plays in the instrumental Tut Vu Vu.

Often collaborating to realise projects, for Gi (Glasgow International Festival for Visual Art) in 2008, he directed and performed an adaptation of Joseph Conrad’s novel, The Secret Agent, with Judd Brucke and produced by Lowsalt. More recently at this years Gi, he created Le Drapeau Noir, a temporary artist cafe installation and programme of events. The programme referenced Dada performance, underground culture, avant-garde and experimental music.

Dower is working on the first issue of Vexillology, a publication documenting the installation and performance programme at Le Drapeau Noir.

Katy Dove

Join our SPIN host Alhena Katsof and the artist Katy Dove for a discussion about Katy’s solo exhibition Rhythm Section.

Rhythm Section is the culmination of Katy’s two-year residency at Platform. Working in collaboration with musicians, architects, a choreographer and artist Simon Yuill, she has produced a body of new work that includes an animated film exhibited alongside watercolours, drawings and paintings. These works exemplify her ongoing approach to slowing down time and concentrating the viewer’s attention through colour shifts, sound, simple forms and shapes that build into immersive environments. The exhibition reflects the diversity of opportunity open to Katy during her PARTners residency and combines both Katy’s own studio-based practice and work made through community projects.

Rhythm Section will be the first major exhibition at Platform since it opened in 2007. The Bridge, the award-winning building which houses the gallery, was designed by Gareth Hoskins. It has been the recipient of numerous awards to date including the Royal Institute of British Architects National Award (2007), the Scottish Design Awards Best Public Building (2007) and the Scottish Design Awards Architecture Grand Prix 2007.
